Kendrick Lamar Makes History with Pulitzer Prize Win

Previous musicians to win the prize include Bob Dylan, Hank Williams and Duke Ellington, but never a hip-hop artist. The Pulitzer Board described DAMN. as "a virtuosic song collection" that captures "the complexity of modern African-American life". The rapper has surely been keeping busy, earning award after award. In addition to this incredible win, he also curated the soundtrack to Black Panther.

But his teaser came on the same day his new single Nice for What debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. With this, the Lauryn Hill sampled smash becomes the 30th song to debut at the top spot of the Hot 100 chart.

Since dropping his third album "To Pimp a Butterfly" in 2014, Kendrick Lamar has won no less than twelve Grammy Awards, not to mention ten MTV Video Music Awards and five NAACP Image Awards, among others. It's nice to not only see him win Grammy Awards and Grammy nominations, but it's especially refreshing to watch the Pulitzer Prize take a surprising break from their norm to award Kendrick Lamar for his incredible, lovely work in Damn.
