Leafs 4, Bruins 2: The Leafs have arrived, time for a series

Because they've been able to do it all year and they're good at it. Not only were they missing Nazem Kadri (suspension), Leo Komarov was also out of the lineup with a lower-body injury. Each of those four had their moments in Game 3 after largely being suppressed back in Beantown. He scored twice in the first period, the second coming while on the penalty kill, and then assisted on three straight Edmonton goals to start the second period.

The Bruins won that game 7-3 to take a 2-0 series lead.

Boston's game plan from the opening faceoff of Game 1 has been clear, hit everything wearing a Maple Leaf and fire the puck on net from anywhere. He's had to contend with three separate injury absences, while also seeing more playing time as the team's number one centre. Shortly after, the Leafs were sprung on a 2-on-1 with Patrick Marleau, who scored his 2nd of the game.

The Bruins used the intermission to regain their composure and it seemed to help as they opened the scoring early in the second. Adam McQuaid beat Frederik Andersen with a stoppable point shot that trickled through. Despite another early surge for the Leafs in the third period, it was Pastrnak who scored the first goal of the period and his second of the game.

This was a period filled with intense back-and-forth action. Leafs coach Mike Babcock was able to use the last change to get Matthews on the ice when Zdeno Chara and Charlie McAvoy were on the bench, giving him more space to work with.

The NHL wants officials to call playoffs at the same standard as the regular season, which is happening with penalties actually going up from the first period through the third.

The first one put Toronto 2-1 up, 3:49 into the middle frame and came just 43 seconds after the Bruins had pulled even.

The Leafs' best players made several clutch players to lift the Leafs to a 4-2 win Monday night, much to the delight of a raucous crowd at the Air Canada Centre.

But the poor goaltending didn't deflate the Maple Leafs and Andersen was pretty good the rest of the way. That's quite an accomplishment.

Other top-six forwards for Toronto, including Mitch Marner (two assists), James van Riemsdyk (one goal), William Nylander (one assist) and Tomas Plekanec (one assist) all found the scoresheet. Is it just a case of the Bruins having his number? They had an very bad night struggling to get back, and allowing some easy scoring chances.

The Boston Bruins top line of Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, and David Pastrnak has been the best line in the playoffs.

"I guess you have checking matchups, you have offensive matchups against them", said Cassidy. However, for some reason, the play was stopped during to an "injured" Toronto player as the Bruins were skating the puck into the zone.

Game 4 of the best-of-seven series will be Wednesday night at the Prudential Center, which was stuffed with fans wearing red.

It may not be do-or-die for the Leafs just yet, but the game may be their last chance to make this a series after dropping the first two games in Boston while allowing a dozen goals. Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
