Trump Slams Comey After Details Of His New Book Emerge

"He lied to Congress under OATH", the president said.

Comey, who was appointed in 2013 by former President Barack Obama, writes that he regrets his approach and some of the wording he used in his July 2016 press conference in which he announced the decision not to recommend charges be brought against Clinton. His interview with ABC is set to air on Sunday. Comey said he preached caution.

CNN reported Friday that the publisher of Comey's book is printing 850,000 copies because of expected high demand.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Twitter Friday: "One of the few areas of true bipartisan consensus in Washington is Comey has no credibility".

Comey's comments come in an interview excerpt, below, released by ABC News Saturday.

Comey writes that Trump asked him to many times to ensure people knew that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was not specifically investigating him.

The president is reacting to Comey's statement that he was working under the assumption of Clinton victory when he issued an statement about her emails that later proved to be unfounded.

"In effect, she was removing herself but not removing herself".

"This President is unethical, and untethered to truth and institutional values", Comey wrote.

She also said that a new raft of Russian sanctions would be outlined Monday, by Steve Mnuchin, US treasury secretary. Syrian state TV said the attack had begun on the capital, though it wasn't immediately clear what was targeted.

Ryan also told Todd that he doesn't feel it is necessary for Congress to pass a bill to protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller, stating that he doesn't think the president will fire Mueller.

In the forthcoming book, Comey compares Trump to a mafia don and calls his leadership of the country "ego driven and about personal loyalty". Comey also revealed during the hearing that he documented his interactions with Trump because he was "concerned" that the President "might lie about the nature of our meeting".

"You guys spend hours upon hours every single day praising Jim Comey, propping him up, giving him the biggest platform".

"President-elect Trump's first question was to confirm that it had no impact on the election ... and then the conversation, to my surprise, moved into a PR conversation about how the Trump team would position this, and what they could say about this, with us still sitting there", Comey said.

The dossier was compiled by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele about Mr Trump's ties to Russian Federation, and included an allegation that involved prostitutes. In the clip, Comey characterizes the situation as surreal.

Mr Ryan, asked whether Mr Comey was a man of integrity, said, "as far as I know" but added that he did not know him well. By that point, Trump had already lectured Comey extensively on why the "pee tape" allegations couldn't possibly be true.

While Comey does not outline the details of the information - and says he didn't see indications of Lynch inappropriately influencing the investigation - he says it anxious him that the material could be used to attack the integrity of the probe and the FBI's independence. Mr Trump has said there was no collusion.

"I said to him, 'Sir, that is up to you, but you want to be careful about that because it might create a narrative that we are investigating you personally and, second, it is very hard to prove something didn't happen", Mr Comey said. Flynn has since pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia's ambassador and is now cooperating with the Mueller investigation.

Russian Federation has denied interfering in the election and Trump has denied any collusion or improper activity.
