President Trump announces military action in Syria underway

President Trump speaks during a Cabinet meeting this month at the White House in Washington.

President Trump walks in to speak in the Diplomatic Reception Room of the White House Friday to speak to the nation about the US military response to Syria's chemical weapon attack on April 7. He can escalate, pulling the US military and his administration into a messy conflict that he recently said he wanted to abandon. But they focused on the prospect of an asymmetric retaliation that would rely on Moscow and Tehran's formidable cybercapabilities - one that would be harder for Washington to prepare for, or defend against.

Russian Federation must decide if it will continue down this dark path, or if it will join with civilised nations as a force for stability and peace. The president said he will review proposals created to shield farmers from the impact of tariffs that will surely devastate American agriculture.

On Monday, he said he would "be making some major decisions over the next 24 to 48 hours".

"These are not the actions of a man, they are crimes of a monster", President Trump said of the attack in Douma last week.

The nations of the world can be judged by the friends they keep.

Even before Trump's official withdrawal a year ago, US participation in the pact was seen as increasingly unlikely due to opposition in the US Congress. "We humiliated their missiles", said Mahmoud Ibrahim, who waved a Syrian flag as he hung out of his vehicle window.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary, said all options remained on the table.

The U.S. and Russian Federation have both supported local allies against the Islamic State militant group (ISIS), but disagree over Syria's political future, a dispute that now threatens to take a violent turn.

Syria's capital has been rocked by loud explosions that lit up the sky with heavy smoke as U.S. President Donald Trump announced airstrikes in retaliation for the country's alleged use of chemical weapons.

Three confirmed targets were struck: a scientific research centre near Damascus, a chemical weapons storage facility west of Homs and a chemical weapons facility serving as a command post. "Public estimates are as high as 200". "There is no practicable alternative to the use of force to degrade and deter the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime", she said.

By Thursday, Trump made the final decision to authorize the strike. "But should the United States and our allies decide to act in Syria, it will be in defense of a principle on which we all agree".

Stoltenberg: All NATO allies fully support joint military action in Syria
Vladimir Putin said the strikes were an "act of aggression" that would have a "destructive" influence on global relations. The attack evoked large-scale criticism of President Bashar al-Assad's regime.

The United States has also rebuilt our friendships across the Middle East.

Friday's strikes appear to signal Trump's willingness to draw the United States more deeply into the Syrian conflict.

By Saturday morning, Trump celebrated a "perfectly executed strike".

He says there is "no doubt" that the Syrian government is responsible. If Mr. Trump succeeds in bringing massive Chinese retaliatory tariffs, farmers should bear the burden of their actions - and I say this as a farmer who, with my dad and grandpa, grows corn and soybeans on 3,000 acres. He added that the US expects the Syrian government and its allies to conduct a "significant disinformation campaign", which the Pentagon would rebut with additional information Saturday morning. Like the Trump measures, the TPP was aimed at the most fundamental level at holding back Chinese technological development and ensuring that the U.S. would maintain its dominant position through a system of measures to protect so-called intellectual property rights.

The one-off missile strike in April 2017 targeted the airfield from which the Syrian aircraft had launched their gas attack. Both destroyers could take part in a strike by launching Tomahawk cruise missiles.

Russia's US embassy released a statement warning that the airstrikes will "not be left without consequences".

Just weeks ago, the Department of Homeland Security identified Russian Federation as the source of malware "implants" in the American electric grid and released samples of code to utilities to help them clean out their systems.

Obama's narrow view of US interests in Syria left him hesitant to challenge the Assad regime militarily.

Iran hit American banks with a major denial-of-service attack almost six years ago, and tried - unsuccessfully - to manipulate a dam in Westchester County, New York. China responded by issuing a list of 106 products imported from the United States, including pork and beef shipments, that will be subject to increased tariffs. President Bashar Assad's government denies responsibility.

But a better deal for the U.S. could mean a worse deal for the other 11 nations, and whether they would sign off on it after protracted negotiations to arrive at the initial agreement is another question.

Nasr al-Hariri, a senior opposition leader, said the worldwide community must take responsibility for any retaliation by the Syrian government against civilians in opposition areas.
