"They are finally getting their due, and it is about time".

For their live set, The Cars, with Weezer's Scott Shriner on bass, performed hits "My Best Friend's Girl", "You Might Think", "Moving in Stereo" and "Just What I Needed". Ric Ocasek, the singer of The Cars, discussed some of his early Cleveland shows. She was a pioneering guitarist who performed gospel music and was known to some as "the godmother of rock "n" roll".

Dire Straits went into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame without its leader. Although it rained during the ceremony, not even a single fan left the arena.

Later during his acceptance speech, Illsley credited Knopfler with writing the band's timeless songs.

Once the tension was lifted, Bon Jovi spoke about the affection for his bandmates.

Jon Bon Jovi recognized a radio journalist from his past.

Vladimir Putin said the strikes were an "act of aggression" that would have a "destructive" influence on global relations. The attack evoked large-scale criticism of President Bashar al-Assad's regime.

According to USA Today, Howard Stern said of the group's rise to fame, "Aside from the incredible music accomplishments, they are some of the nicest men I ever met, humble and gracious".

During a 20-minute speech, Jon Bon Jovi recounted the band's rise to superstardom from basements to sold-out arenas. "Performing for the first time in years with original guitarist Richie Sambora, the band played hits such as "Livin" on a Prayer", "You Give Love a Bad Name" and "It's My Life".

The late Tom Petty was honoured with a rousing musical tribute by The Killers to open the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland.

(Meanwhile, Mark's brother David said his own absence was due to the Rock Hall "reneging" on its promise to pay his full travel bills, while drummer Pick Withers also hasn't commented publicly.) Members of a band skipping the ceremony for personal reasons isn't inherently unusual for the Rock Hall, but this year, something changed - the inclusive spirit of the induction took a full 180 when the participating Straitsmen came on stage, as the two fundamental tenets of the process were completely eschewed. The Cars, founded in Boston in 1976, combined New Wave and classic rock sounds. Dire Straits, The Moody Blues and Sister Rosetta Tharpe also are being enshrined. He said he had been writing the speech for years.

Dire Straits lead singer Mark Knopfler isn't attending the event. He proceeded to trash Rolling Stone magazine publisher Jann Wenner, whom he said worked behind-the-scenes to ensure Bon Jovi wouldn't be inducted into the Rock Hall. The band will be inducted by Howard Stern. She described Simone as "bold, feisty, strong and fearless", something Simone's brother confirmed in a rambling speech he made while accepting her award. With the much-publicised non-appearance of former Dire Straits frontman and songwriter Mark Knopfler, and the unusual absence of a fellow artist to introduce them, it fell on his former bandmate and longtime friend John Illsley to induct the group himself.
