DeChambeau leads at Harbour Town

DeChambeau leads at Harbour Town

Ian Poulter continued his impressive recent form at the RBC Heritage, shooting a seven-under-par 64 in the second round to be one shot behind leader Bryson DeChambeau.

Poulter and South Korea's Si Woo Kim initially held the clubhouse lead at nine under, with the latter sinking nine birdies in a 65, which would have been even better if it hadn't been for a triple bogey on the 14th.

"Obviously my iron play is incredible, and when I get going I can get hot", DeChambeau told reporters.

DeChambeau, 24, earned his first PGA Tour win at the John Deere Classic last July and was runner-up to Rory McIlroy at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March.

"I know my game is good enough to be with the elites in the game", DeChambeau added.

The Englishman, who this month won the Houston Open to qualify for last weekend's Masters, played some textbook golf en route to signing for a bogey-free four-under-par 67 after his third round.

American DeChambeau earned a one-stroke lead after 36 holes thanks to an eagle and seven birdies at Harbour Town in SC on Friday.

"Confidence is definitely there from a perspective of feeling like I can be more aggressive right now", Poulter said.

But they were overtaken by DeChambeau later in the day after he sank four birdies in five holes on his way to a 64 - his lowest ever round on the PGA Tour.

World No 1 Dustin Johnson made the cut for the first time in three appearances on Hilton Head Island, firing a second straight 69 which included a remarkable par save on the seventh when he came within inches of holing a left-handed chip from next to a tree.
