Federal Bureau of Investigation raid on lawyer Michael Cohen's office disgraceful

Updated: FBI agents who raided the office and temporary home of President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Monday reportedly sought records related to an Access Hollywood tape in which Trump was heard making vulgar comments about women to a reporter.

The New York Times reported a source as claiming emails, tax documents and business records were seized on Monday.

But a source said it was Cohen's "standard practice" to play recordings for the president that he'd made of other top advisers.

In Cohen's case, critics said the search relates to payments made to pornography star Stormy Daniels that would not seem to justify so potentially intrusive a search of the attorney's confidential lawyer-client files. McDougal was paid $150,000 by American Media Inc., the Enquirer's parent company, whose chief executive is a friend of Trump's.

Attorney John Dowd, who recently left Trump's legal team last, was adamantly against Trump submitting to a face-to-face interview.

'It resulted in the unnecessary seizure of protected attorney clients communications between a lawyer and his clients'.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agents stunned the president's personal attorney Michael Cohen and a starkly aggressive move involving one of Trump's closest. "We'll see what happens", said Trump. "I've given over a million pages in documents to the special counsel", Trump said, visibly angered by the development, though he insisted he is not concerned with what the Federal Bureau of Investigation might uncover.

"Today the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of NY executed a series of search warrants and seized the privileged communications between my client, Michael Cohen, and his clients", said Stephen Ryan, Cohen's own lawyer.

While Cohen told Lemon that Monday's raid on his home and office was "upsetting to say the least", he also did not blame the agents who participated in the search.

Cohen has held numerous New York City medallions in his portfolio, according to records, though the value has been diminished since the onset of Uber and Lyft. The newspaper identified the second woman as Karen McDougal, an ex-Playboy model who said she had an affair with Trump shortly after the birth of his son in 2006.

Investigators were seeking documents related to possible bank fraud, as well as potential campaign finance violations, according to The Washington Post.

Monday's raid was carried out as part of an investigation into collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign during the presidential election, which is being overseen by Special Counsel Robert Muller.

Mr Cohen could be found to have broken campaign funding laws if a court decides the impending election was the motivation for the payment.
