D23 Unveils New Solo: A Star Wars Story Cover

Here's hoping that audiences will be saying the exact same thing when Solo: A Star Wars Story is released on May 25.

The trailer then flashes through a number of impressive action scenes, and sees the beginning of Han's friendship with Chewbacca.

Alden Ehrenreich will play Han Solo, with Donald Glover taking on the role of Lando Calrissian and Emilia Clarke as new character Qi'Ra.

The film is the second anthology film after 2016's Rogue One. But more importantly, it's pulled me toward the other side of the fence and has me actually excited to see this Star Wars Story. After Han asks Chewie how he knows to fly the ship, the young smuggler gets a surprising answer. While it's easy enough to guess the age of the humans, trying to figure out how old characters from other planets are is almost impossible, which is why it was such a pleasant surprise to learn that Chewbacca is 190 years old at the time of Solo.

The new Mighty Muggs collectibles from Hasbro not only sport amusing smirks, but they also change their facial expressions completely (three different faces per figure) when you press down on their heads. Oh and the Disney/Lucasfilm anthology story is slated to premiere at Cannes on May 15th before its wide release on May 25th, so it's probably a safe bet that we'll start seeing more from Han Solo's story in the run-up. In addition, the new figures for the Mudtroopers, Range Troopers, as well two-packs featuring Han Solo and Chewbacca, and a set of fighting droids - which includes a Gonk droid - has also been revealed. But it's a line from newcomer Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson) that seems to allude to one of the franchise's biggest twists. ("All the stories you've heard about me are true", he says with a smile.) Then, as John Powell's score changes from something nearly rock and roll-ish to something more John Williams-ish the trailer begins to resemble a classic space-adventure with laser blasts and spaceship chases.
