"Universal health coverage is a political choice". Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has the vision of "Together for a healthier world".

What are the WHO's principles?

"Since then, average global life expectancy has expanded by 23 years", he continued, noting the eradication of smallpox and the dissipation of polio.

Stressing upon the importance of observing World Health Day, Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr. Saleem ur Rehman said that people should be able to realise their right to the highest possible level of health. The World Health Day focuses on ensuring that all can access essential health services.

Universal health coverage has become a major goal for health reform in many countries and is a priority objective of the WHO. It emphasizes not only what services are covered, but also how they are funded, managed, and delivered. But half the world's population is still unable to obtain the health services they need.

In this sense, a statement published by the WHO confirms that actions are needed from all sectors of society to address poverty, social injustice, education deficit and unhealthy housing, among other factors that influence health status of people.

Since then, the United Nations chief said, the world has made progress in health care with global life expectancy expanding by 23, the eradication of smallpox and polio on its way out.

Many countries have successfully eliminated measles, malaria and debilitating tropical diseases, as well as mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis.

The First World Assembly was held by the WHO in 1948.

The World Health Organization (WHO) marks its 70th anniversary on World Health Day today on April 7.
