Hope Hicks reportedly told House Intelligence Committee that her email was hacked

Hope Hicks, communication director for U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is pictured following a news conference at Trump Tower in the Manhattan borough of NY, U.S., May 31, 2016.

News reported Wednesday that Hope Hicks told the House intelligence committee, during what the network's sources described as a routine exchange, that she no longer had access to two email accounts, one personal and one campaign-related. It is unclear which account Hicks referred to.

Hicks' correspondence - and that of others who worked on the Trump campaign - has been a subject of interest for special counsel Robert Mueller, who is running the investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation, as well as possible obstruction of justice by Trump associates.

News reported Wednesday that Hicks informed the committee when answering a routine question that she was locked out of both her personal email address and the one she used when working on President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign. She mentioned two accounts during her testimony, one personal and another that she had used during Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, but did not immediately clarify which one had been hacked.

Her assertion of a hack raises the questions of who might have compromised her account, as well as when, why and what information could have been obtained. The report did not give any indication whether the Committee asked about - lawmakers had little leverage over the former adviser because she was testifying voluntarily.

During her testimony to the House panel, Hicks told lawmakers her work for President Trump occasionally required her to tell "white lies". The next day, Hicks abruptly announced her resignation.
