Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Reportedly Asked by Giants to Take Pay Cut

ESPN first reported Rodgers-Cromartie's imminent release.

The move saves the Giants $6.5 million against the salary cap, upping their available space to around $26.5 million entering the free agency negotiation period on Monday, following the recent trade for Rams linebacker Alec Ogletree and Saturday's release of punter Brad Wing.

As Schefter notes, the move will save the Giants $6.5 million.

Rodgers-Cromartie, 31, moved inside to play the hard slot corner role the past two years, as Eli Apple supplanted him as a starting outside cornerback.

The Giants have informed veteran Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie that he will be released, the Daily News has confirmed. Prior to his release, the Giants had asked Rodgers-Cromartie to take a pay cut if he was to stay on for next season, but he declined.

It's been a insane week for Rodgers-Cromartie.

But Rodgers-Cromartie expressed his regret about leaving the franchise in a tweet Sunday.

It will be interesting to see how Harrison's comments that "52 other players who should be asked to do the same thing" as Rodgers-Cromartie - referencing being asked to take a pay cut - plays in a locker room that became divided amid a disastrous 3-13 2017 season.

Giants sources later pumped the brakes on those reports, and it's now obvious as to why. He had no interceptions, 48 tackles and one pass breakup. He was named to the Pro Bowl and was considered one of the most underrated Giants during his four-year tenure.
