Authorities are not identifying the suspect in the California veterans home hostage standoff or the three women who were killed.

Twenty-nine-year-old Jennifer Gonzales, a clinical psychologist with the San Francisco Department of Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, is being remembered by friends for her commitment to both her family and her job.

Mark didn't hear from her again, Malick said.

Authorities have said that the women were employees of The Pathway Home.

"These fearless women were accomplished professionals who dedicated their careers to serving our nation's veterans, working closely with those in the greatest need of attention after deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan", The Pathway Home said in a statement.

Police did not say how they died, although local media, citing unnamed sources, reported that the assailant shot the three women before turning the gun on himself.

Smith, a fundraiser for the nonprofit Pathway Home, was still inside the facility's dining hall and was not allowed to leave, he said. He says the program's board will meet later Saturday to discuss the plan.

Childs said a sheriff's deputy who was first on the scene exchanged fire with the suspect, adding that "we credit him with saving the lives of others in the area by eliminating the ability for the suspect to go out and find further victims".

The slain hostages were the Pathway Home's executive director, Christine Loeber, 48, of Napa; Jennifer Golick, 42, of St. Helena, a clinical director with the center; and Jennifer Gonzales, 29, according to the Napa County Sheriff's Office. Golick and Gonzalez were counselors and Loeber was the director of the program.

Wong served one year in Afghanistan.

Our performance against Everton was very good and if we carry on like that we will have a really good chance. Can we make improvements, can we play better, can we do things much better? - of course, we can.

Yellow police tape surrounded the multilevel, vanilla-colored stucco building that houses a program for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress a day after a deadly Northern California shooting.

Gov. Jerry Brown said flags would fly at half-staff at the state Capitol in honor of the slain hostages, "three people dedicated to serving our veterans".

The identity of the gunman has not been released, and it is not yet known if he had any relationship to any of the victims.

Zimmer says she "cannot blame him".

Trump tweeted Saturday morning that he mourns "the loss of three incredible women who cared for our Veterans".

A former United States serviceman opened fire at a California veterans home where he had undergone treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder, taking three employees hostage in an all-day standoff that ended when police found him and his female captives dead. He had slipped into a going-away party for some Pathway employees.

The situation leading to the killings began Friday around 10:20 a.m. PT (1:20 p.m. ET), when police received reports that a man dressed in black, wearing body armor and armed with an automatic weapon entered the grounds of the facility, according to the Napa Valley Register.

A relative of one victim said Wong was recently expelled from the program.

California Highway Patrol assistant chief Chris Childs said the bodies had been found around 6.00pm, nearly eight hours after the gunman slipped into a staff party.
