France's Emanuel Macron Arrives In India, Gets PM Modi's Hug: 10 Points

French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in India on a four-day visit on Friday night.

Modi welcomed Macron with a warm hug as soon as he alighted from the aircraft and shook hands with his wife Brigitte Macron.

In 2017, a few months after Emmanuel Macron became the new president of France, PM Modi visited Paris and met the newly elected PM with an aim to bolster the bilateral strategic ties and discuss key issues like terrorism and climate change.

He said that there has been increasing convergence in this area and "we hope to take it forward". President Macron will also visit Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Modi, on March 12.

France has also collaborated with India under the "Smart Cities" initiative taken up by the Modi government.

During his visit to Varanasi on Monday, he will inaugurate a 75MW solar plant built by Engie Solar at Mirzapur.
