Defending champion Lewis Hamilton and MercedesAMG teammate Valtteri Bottas focused on running race simulations for a 2nd day running Friday. The team completed 794 laps. The Spaniard set a best of 1m17.784s, set on hyper soft rubber. The track was also resurfaced in January, hindering comparisons to previous times. The flatbed was once again dispatched to retrieve the car, forcing another clean-up for the marshals and a short track delay. We'll have a better idea in a couple of weeks in Melbourne and then, in general, after the first few races of the season.

Red Bull Racing was next with Daniel Ricciardo setting the fourth best time overall with a 1m18.047s. "The car gives me a good feeling and, even if there are still a lot of things to improve, it's reasonably easy to drive". The team did an impressive 1040 laps in total in the test. Fuel loads, engine modes and tyre compounds all make a significant difference to performance.

Charles Leclerc had a slight scare early when he lost control of his Sauber and ended knocking the protective barrier, which needed to be mended by the ground crew.
