NRA or gun salesmen?

The shooting in Parkland spurred the move, the company said.

"I think having that date far out is going to maybe be the bookend", Gaines-Ross said.

But the number of companies that have distanced themselves from the NRA or enacted new policies on guns continues to grow by the day.

Its political clout has another source: the NRA rating. No one action - a march, the announcement from Dick's Sporting Goods, termination of marketing partnerships - will spell the end of the NRA's power.

Other companies that have maintained relationships with the NRA under pressure include Apple and Amazon, while several others have cut ties with the group, including Delta and United Airlines, Symantec, and auto rental companies Avis, Hertz, Alamo, Enterprise, and National.

More than a dozen companies, including Hertz, United, and Delta, have cut ties with the NRA in recent days. The announcement did not specify when that policy would go into effect.

I'd be willing to bet that the NRA not only won't be negatively affected by this latest controversy, but will actually see an explosion in membership.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams says it's been getting inundated with customer complaints about FedEx, its delivery partner, ever since the shipping service's NRA member discounts made the news.

TrueCar: "TrueCar is ending its car-buying service relationship with the NRA effective February 28, 2018", the Santa Monica, California-based automotive pricing and information website tweeted Friday night.

ThinkProgress first reported on a number of companies that do business with the NRA last week, almost two dozen of which have now cut ties with the association.

Paramount RX: The company, which worked with a third-party vendor to provide a prescription drug discount program to NRA members, said that it's "working with that vendor to discontinue the program and remove the offering".

First National Bank of Omaha: One of the country's largest privately held banks, the First National was among the first major companies to cut ties with the NRA by not renewing a designated NRA Visa Card, which was issued to NRA members.

"This study claims that firearms-related injury plummets 20 percent nationwide when less than one-tenth of 1 percent of gun owners attend this event?"

I'm hopeful that this movement continues and grows (as I write this, Walmart has just announced that it will not sell firearms to anyone under 21...progress!), and that its perpetrators have the stamina to keep up the fight. Walmart stopped selling assault-style rifles in 2015. "We concluded if these kids are courageous enough to organize and do what they're doing, we should be fearless enough to take this stand", CEO Edward Stack told CNN. Those brands include: Bollé, Bushnell, CamelBak, Camp Chef, and Jimmy Styks.

The authors say it's evidence that firearms - even in the hands of experienced users - are inherently risky and accidents don't just happen among novices.

"To be clear, FedEx and UPS are saying the same thing about the NRA: UPS provides discounted shipping rates to the NRA, which uses UPS for shipping".
