Gov. Greg Abbott orders Texas Rangers to investigate Karolyi Ranch

When previously contacted by ESPN for comment on a recent story that outlined the abuse women suffered under the care of USA Gymnastics, Marta Karolyi declined to comment on behalf of her family.

On Tuesday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement the allegations of sexual assault of athletes at Karolyi Ranch "are deeply disturbing and demand thorough and swift justice". U.S.A. Gymnastics ended its relationship with the ranch on January 18 after Olympic champion Simone Biles, who said she was sexually abused there, said "it is impossibly difficult" to return to the site to train.

Texas state law enforcement officials will investigate allegations of sexual assault at the Karolyi Ranch, the former national gymnastics training center near Houston, the state's governor announced Tuesday. "Considering that criminal action has been implicated across multiple jurisdictions and states, it is essential that the Texas Rangers work with the Walker County Sheriff's Office to comprehensively investigate all potential criminal conduct", noted Abbott. The facility - which has already had its relationship with USA gymnastics terminated - employed Larry Nassar, who was sentenced earlier this month in MI to 40-175 years in prison after accepting a plea deal for his sexual crimes.

Nassar has been accused of sexual abuse by more than 150 women and girls.

The state's medical board has previously confirmed that Nassar was practicing medicine without a Texas medical license, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Amazon, Berkshire and JPMorgan partner to tackle health care
If they can manage to fix the health care conundrum in any meaningful way, other companies would surely embrace similar solutions. Amazon has always been mentioned by health care analysts and industry executives as a potential new entrant into the sector.

The governor's request comes after a MI judge sentenced Nassar to 40 to 175 years in prison last week for multiple charges of criminal sexual conduct. He has already been sentenced to 40 to 175 years in Ingham County in a separate case, and to 60 years in prison on federal child pornography charges.

Nassar was convicted of molesting female gymnasts - many Olympic athletes, some as young as 6 - for years under the guise of medical treatment.

"We are committed to ensuring a process that is independent, transparent, sensitive and accessible to those who wish to provide input to the independent investigator", a U.S. Olympic Committee statement said.
