Russia Intercepts US Spy Plane in International Airspace Over Black Sea

The incident unfolded while the U.S. EP-3 Aries spy plane was on a mission in global airspace.

The incident was confirmed by Capt. Pamela Kunze of US Naval Forces Europe who branded the intercept "unsafe".

Russian and USA military planes were also involved in an incident in December in Syria in which US F-22s intercepted Russian Su-25 close-air support jets after they flew over a deconfliction line along the Euphrates River. "Unsafe actions‎ increase the risk of miscalculation and midair collisions", the Pentagon said.

The statement said the USA plane didn't provoke the intercept and was operating in accordance to global law. U.S. European Command at the time expressed "deep concerns about the unsafe and unprofessional Russian flight maneuvers".

Last November, U.S. officials reported a Russian Su-30 fighter had made an "unsafe" intercept of a U.S. Navy P8-A Poseidon in the region.

"The Russian Su-27 fighter jet conducted the entire flight in strict accordance with worldwide rules of the use of airspace".

Injured Finch out of fourth ODI vs England
In the previous ODI, Travis Head just missed a century in guiding Australia to the brink of a three-wicket win over England . Australia won the toss and elected to bowl first in what will be the very first worldwide match at the brand new stadium.

CNN military analyst John Kirby said the Russian jet's action was "Inexcusable, provocative & potentially fatal". "No extraordinary situations occurred during the intercept", the statement added. Russian military leaders are known for a lot of things.

The entire incident lasted two hours and 40 minutes, officials said.

"The Russian military is within its right to operate within worldwide airspace, but they must behave within global standards set to ensure safety and prevent incidents", the statement read. In that incident, the Russian aircraft crossed in front of the USA plane, forcing the US plane through its jet wash and causing "a 15-degree roll and violent turbulence", US officials said.

And in Syria in December, US F-22s fired warning flares at two Russian SU-25 planes that, according to US officials, crossed the country's de-confliction line.

"A Su-27 fighter was sent to intercept the target and approached the aircraft at a safe distance and identified it as an ER-3E (Aries II) US reconnaissance aircraft", the Russian defense ministry statement said.
